It has come that time of the year, When the scent of love is strongest in the air; Where the clamor to love and be loved is at its loudest, Ringing in the ears of everyone alive, from the oldest, to the youngest. We recognize it, as a festival of love, Where going above and beyond, Is the accepted norm. Material gifts raining on every side, Hearts climbing over every divide, Are only a few of Valentine’s pride. Oftentimes, we are caught up in the craze, To receive and keep on for days But all too often, we forget the One whose extravagant love, outlasts decades We forget the agape He instructed us to display We forget that agape lets go of every offence, We forget that agape is willing to try again and again, Actually, enough times until it does the trick. I know Abba is more invested in our love count, Than our gift count or the cost amount. Husbands, forgive your wives; Wives, forgive your husbands; Husbands, purpose to be better at your God-given role, A priest, an intercessor, a king and so much more, To achieve a marriage totally whole. Wives, rise up to become the epitome of a builder, Reinforce those walls that protect your home, You’ve slept for far too long. Together, resolve to take charge of your dome, Break the negative patterns that irk you so, Cultivate the new seeds that you have sown, And watch it spring forth a new dispensation, A Christ dispensation. Children, you could be better and you know it, Appreciate your parents more, Their sacrifices over you knows no limits. Why don’t you let go of rebellion? Instead, embrace your parents’ “well done”. It’ll heal so many heartaches. To the church with many imperfections, Who serves a perfect God, There is always more in stock. Here’s to healing the grieved in our midst, Here’s to acting in love in all our deeds, May we make our Lord proud, With our capacity to love so loud, That it announces itself to the unsaved that are miles away. May we truly be inspired, to love not just on Valentine’s day, But on every opportunity we get, May our love be evident from our words and actions, In deed and in truth, Soli Deo Gloria Selah. ©Mofeoluwa Ogundipe, 2022
I wrote this poem as a spoken word piece to be performed in my church for Valentine’s in the year 2022. I haven’t shared this since then and so I thought to myself, why not share it with my ara adugbo. After all, the message at its core still rings true even till today. Did you like it? What stood out to you most about it? Let me know in the commentss!
Also, don’t forget to like this post and share the link as well. Let’s help more people join the adugbo. Plus, if you liked this, you should totally subscribe for more premium lifestyle-centric content! And feel free to peek at all the other editions we have on here.
You’ll be seeing me soon again with a super-special love poem I recently wrote. It’s kinda in commemoration of this year’s Valentine as a single pringle and I promise you, it’ll warm your heart and make your toes curl.
Hint, hint, the title is: The Manifestation of Agape. I leave you to ponder what exactly lays in store. Catch you soon!
All my love,
Mofeoluwa💚
