N.B: We're still continuing from our previous edition, where we dwelt on the topics of Retrospection and Introspection which I believe that we greatly did justice to. If you aren't caught up yet, do check here
Alright, let's get into it:
8. Ditch comparisons and nip envy in the bud - Have you ever heard that comparison is a thief of joy? If you haven't, now I’m telling you.
Stop running against someone else's divine clock. You are not late, you are not behind, you are on time, working along to God's intended timeline for your life. That person you're comparing yourself with, you're not going to the same destination and you definitely do not have the same assignment.
So what does it matter that Tolani won that scholarship and you didn't? It may hurt now, but in the not too far off future, you will come to understand that winning the scholarship then would have brought you no closer to destiny. It would have shifted the course of your life and not necessarily for the better. You must understand that sometimes, 'losing' is really winning and winning isn't always really 'winning'.
Or in a more relatable example, the current ASUU strike. If you're a student affected by the strike, let me tell you one thing that I'm truly truly convinced of. By God, ASUU cannot stop you from fulfilling purpose. They cannot cause you to be late for destiny because God won't ever let that happen.
ASUU may be on strike but I guarantee you that your life is still taking shape, even if it may not look like it as far as your eyes can see. You are still being positioned for purpose even if you don't yet have an idea of where you're going.
Do you know how I know this?
This verse of scripture isn't telling us that every place or situation that we find ourselves in is going to be ‘good’, likely owing to the fact that humans don't like to follow the plan most of the time. So even if you are just on your own jeje, other people's actions or inaction can affect you (as in the case of ASUU).
Howeverrr, this is where the Sovereignty of God comes in. He is more than able to anticipate the choices and actions of us His creations so He's always several steps ahead. This means that He has the power to take those pesky details, turn them around and make them contribute to your progress instead. And more importantly than the fact that He has the power to do it, He is WILLING to make sure that every detail in your life falls in place the way it's supposed to. Why? Because you're no ordinary creation, you are a SON; and that counts for a whole lot in this Kingdom.
What good father watches on as his child's life crashes on itself because of factors out of the child's control? When He knows that He can singularly bend every factor involved into working for the overall good of His child, do you think He would hold back? That's what I thought.
So trust the process, love, even if you may not understand it. Give God more credit. Abandon the rat race of comparison. Be confident in the truth that God is not asleep, that you are not forgotten, that the God of your past, present and future is holding it all together. Heads or tails, you always win!
Then again, the more secure you are in purpose, the more you will learn to shake off comparison. Anytime I see someone making strides and comparison wants to slink into my mind, I shake it off 'kiakia' by reminding myself that my own blueprint is different so where I am is good enough for the now. As for where I'm going, that too will fall in place as I walk in step with God so there's really no hurry.
That’s probably why Temilade Salami once said, "Na you dey time God, He is never late!”
For the uni student affected by the strike, whenever you see your juniors or contemporaries that are moving forward with their education, I want you to choose how you respond. Notice how I said respond instead of react? (I explained the difference in the voiceover)
Would you rather respond with bitterness or resentment (which is frankly the very human thing to do) or would you find joy in the truth that you're still moving in the line of purpose? Would you be confident in the truth that you will still get to where you're supposed to when you're supposed to be there? Would you be understanding of the truth that there is no competition for who bags the degree first? Or who gets the job first? Would you understand that your journey is yours and no one else's so you cannot fit into someone else's blueprint?
It's not as simple as abc but God is there to help you, if only you let Him.
And regarding envy, I want you to know that the moment you resolve to take back whatever hold that comparison may have on you, you're shutting the doors to envy as well.
Look, “Security in purpose and God's ability and desire to give your life the best possible outcome will empower you to shut comparison and envy out the door” - Meeee
Say this with me: God is able and willing to organise the events of my life to make sure that I take the best possible route to achieve the best possible outcome.
You can still access beautiful wallpapers for free here. They're such a hit already, and I designed them with the peculiarities of your season in mind, sprinkling important truths you need to remember on them.
